The White Mosque (Al-Masjid al-Abyad) in Nazareth, is the city's oldest mosque, constructed between 1785 and 1804 with funding from Egyptian Ottoman ruler Sulayman Pasha al-Adil and overseen by Nazareth's high commissioner, Sheikh Abdullah al-Fahoum, to commemorate the end of Jazzar Pasha's rule. Situated in the vibrant Harat Alghama (Mosque Quarter) amid the Old Market, it features classic Ottoman architecture with cream-colored walls, green trim, a distinctive pencil-shaped minaret, and a dome, exemplifying the style prevalent in the region. Administered as a waqf by the al-Fahoum family - whose founder's tomb lies in the courtyard - it served as Nazareth's sole mosque until 1964 and now supports the Muslim community through religious classes, a scout troop for hundreds of youth, and a small museum on local history. As a key site in Palestine's largest Arab city, it embodies the area's multicultural heritage, blending Islamic tradition with Nazareth's biblical significance.
